Australian Mist Cat Breed

The Australian Mist is a breed of cat that originated about 30-35 years ago after the Burmese, Abyssian, and Domestic Shorthair cats were crossed to get a shorthaired cat with a spotted coat. The breeding was also done to achieve a health cat with a great disposition. Over time cats with marbled coats became a part of the breed as well. Up until that time the breed was called the Spotted Mist.

They are known as a cat that is clever and fun to have around. They are very relaxed and quite friendly.

They come in two patterns (spotted or marbled), and Seven Colors (Brown, Blue, Chocolate, Lilac, Caramel, Gold or Peach). They have a tabby appearance in the markings on their face.

If you have children this is a good breed of cat to choose. Even very young children will be fine with this breed because they are quite tolerant of handling, and are not inclined to scratch. They are also good with anyone who is a shut in as they are great indoor cats and love to snuggle.

If you adopt this breed of cat you can expect it to live a long life with good care. Their life expectancy is in the mid to late teens and possibly to the age of twenty years old!

Where to get an Australian Mist Cat Breed?

I always recommend you adopt a cat from a cat rescue or animal shelter. Too many wonderful cats end up in shelters and rescues simply because of overpopulation. And please spay and neuter your cats to reduce overpopulation! Beyond this, you will find that a fixed cat has a nicer personality and will get along with other pets better.

I think that you will have to go to a breeder to get an Australian (aka Spotted) Mist. They are a fairly rare breed of cat and as their name implies, they are primarily bred in Australia
