The Border Terrier Dog Breed
The Border Terrier dog breed is from the border of England and Scotland and has been a popular breed for nearly 100 years now. They were bred for bolting foxes and are fast enough to keep up with a horse (because they were bred for being used in hunts for sport)
Size and Appearance This is one of the smallest of the Terrier Dog Breeds. They stand 10 to 11 inches tall (25 – 28 cm) and weigh 11 – 16 pounds (5-8 kg). They are a compact dog that comes in several colors including red, grizzle and tan, blue and tan or wheaten. Their coats are short, wiry, and straight. Overall they are easy to groom, just a weekly brushing and an occasional stripping of dead hairs from its body. They have smaller feet, thin long legs and a compact head with a short muzzle and short whiskers. They have v shaped ears that fold forward and medium sized eyes. Personality and TemperamentThe Border Terrier is among the Most Popular Dog Breeds. because it is a very adaptable dog. They are playful and have an average energy level. Like most terriers they have a barking and digging instinct, but they are not as aggressive or stubborn as other terriers (they are more easily trained). If you get one, make sure that your yard is fenced well since they will make it a mission to get out of the yard to chase smaller animals. Overall this breed is great with children. They are tolerant of kids and enjoy games. Kids need to be taught how to behave with their dog, and the dog needs to be socialized with the children properly. On average a border terrier will live 12 – 15 years.
