The Havanese Dog Breed

The Havanese dog breed is from Cuba originally and were popular in Europe as circus dogs. The breed has dwindled quite a bit in Cuba but there are breeders in the United States that have kept the breed going. In fact, it is one of the Most Popular Dog Breeds

Size and Appearance

This small dog breed stands 9 – 11 inches (23-28 cm) tall and weighs 7 – 13 pounds. Because of its small size it is a member of the Toy dog breed group.

This breed has an abundant double coat but it does not shed. The outer coat is long and wavy. They have a tail that is carried high and arcs over their back.

They come in any number of colors and patterns.

Personality and Temperament

This is a dog with a good energy level. It likes a busy household with children (as long as the kids are not too rough). It loves to play and is happiest when there are people or other pets around.

They are easily trained, very affectionate and do not try to be the boss of the house. They have little fear and will bark at the first sign of trouble or to let you know that someone is coming to the house.

This is a healthy dog breed that will live 12 to 15 years.
